Lost

its crazy to think about how Roy and i had never collaborated on an artistic level until now, and all of the synergies that led us here. it felt like we were always just an arms length apart, operating in the same circles, innovating in similar ways, both navigating the same spaces. after a few oddly serendipitous coincidences exchanged between us, it seemed like the universe was leaving signs everywhere that we should know each other, and beyond that, create together.

ive been a big fan of all of Roys creative endeavors for a while, and being in the studio with him was kinda magical. we wrote Lost the first time we sat down in a studio together, after talking for hours about the ebbs and flows of the music industry, and even more so, the ebbs and flows of simply just existing. we shared in a lot of the same pain, question marks, internal battles around decision making, relationships, and feeling like sometimes even when you thought you put the whole puzzle together, when you take a step back, a few pieces might still be lost somewhere in the ether. 

Lost is the first of what i hope to be many collaborations with Jagwar Twin, as two artists aiming to push the boundaries of what it means to exist at the intersection of digital and physical, tradition and innovation, storytelling and experimentation. but most importantly, as two people taking leaps of faith in the world with no set expectations.

Jagwar Twin: Much of the world feels lost right now. The shifting human landscape can be difficult to navigate as we are bombarded with external influences. All these external influences are pointing each of us to something in ourselves that we seem to have lost or forgotten. Annika and I are both navigating this new digital landscape and so it"s no surprise that this song was birthed from it. I think in many ways we are all coming to grips with the reality that what seems black or white is usually neither, and simultaneously, both.

In My Head

i wrote In My Head after beating myself up for having the most outlandish thoughts.  humans think over 17,000 thoughts a day, on average, and often times we let those narratives drive us to some pretty insane beliefs.

your own mind can be your biggest enemy; flooded with wild ideas around the what ifs and hows and whens, or even "what would happen if i just stopped my car in the middle of the freeway right now?"

our mind can be more dangerous than the outside world; dictating your belief system about yourself & the world & persuading you to believe scenarios that are far from reality. In My Head was a response to the recognition of how important it is to not identify with each and every thought that infiltrates your brain, & to remind yourself of who you know u are at ur core <3 i hope you like it :)

Bruises

hi. im Annika Rose. 

ive been an artist in the industry since I was 9 years old, and man have i seen some shit - the good, the bad, and the ugly. 

in 2016 i lost my first major record deal, my family broke down and drastically reassembled. i cycled through more unfulfilling deals and ghostly promises until the world was shut down by the pandemic.  it became increasingly more obvious to me that the only promise i could make was to myself and to my art. and the only way to relinquish control over it was to fearlessly trust in it. 

Bruises is a song i wrote about a friend. a friend quite literally covered in self-inflicted bruises, but more importantly its become about how others metaphorical bruises can so quickly become your own; how pain is so contagious, especially around people who you love and care for the most. 

this song is my first audio nft; the daunting yet seemingly very special first step of a journey into greater ownership, creativity, and connection in my art. im excited for the world to hear it as a reminder that taking care of your mental health can be the hardest but end up being the most rewarding path to walk. for yourself and for everyone in your orbit.
