"I think of the genesis of the Basement as a metamorphosis.

I wanted to show the final stirrings of a pupa before it is transformed.  
  
There is evidence that the moth can recall the experiences of the caterpillar: a reminder of our shared past.

The alchemical symbols for fire and earth represent the elements I feel we are rooted in:

Fire as the destructive catalyst for change; Earth for the metaphorical place where we make our home."
