It always amazes me how you can be on a high-traffic trail, like those around Kaaterskill Falls, and still find a moment of peace. When I took this photo, there were maybe 10 other people scattered around the base of the Falls. Still, I felt alone with my thoughts as if I were in my own world. It was a cold, foggy day and I was grateful to be away from the hustle and bustle of my day-to-day life; listening to the crashing of the falls and navigating the rocks to get out to the middle of the stream. 

The natural world gives us a reprieve from the artificial stimuli that we are inundated with every day. It's a reminder that we belong to something much bigger than ourselves and our neighborhoods. We're a small part of not just this planet, but everything that infinitely expands beyond. The goal of this animation, as it was with the original photo, is to reflect on that simultaneous awe and intimacy that nature inspires in all of us.  

I originally took the photo from the base of Kaaterskill Falls in May of 2019. For the animation, I added movement to the falls and surrounding water and added the same ethereal effect that I used in "Surfing The Ethereal Plane", which is the other half of this collection.
