Tribute Of The Witches

This card is about the mother figure throughout myths. The most known one is Mary, the mother of Jesus from the bible. She is loving, wise, protective, and dignified.Thousands of years before the bible, archeological evidence in the form of statues and tablets contain traces of goddess worship in the Middle East, as far back as 25000 BC. The worship of the goddess is as old as human civilization. The Venus of Willendorf  a small carved statue of a plentiful and fertile woman with large breasts and a round stomach  discovered in Austria in 1908, is believed to be more than 32,000 years old. Among all the female archetypes, the mother is the eldest and the most enduring. She represents the cyclical tides of nature as a woman's body embodies the life-giving and life-taking powers of nature. As a pregnant woman, she represented the fertility of the land with her swollen belly full of promise. She represented the protective mother who instinctively watches over her children. She is also the crone who, like the Babylonian goddess Tiamat, will eat her own children. She is the beginning and the ending, the womb and the tomb. The great mother goddess is present at every stage of human life and civilization, giving birth, raising her numerous children, and welcoming them back into her own body at death. I painted her with a face that shows compassion but also tranquility, as she holds her heart in her hands, pouring out her love into all beings.
