Tribute Of The Witches

"We come spinning out of nothingness, scattering stars like dust." Rumi. The Starry Goddess is a rather new concept. It was first quoted by D. Valiente in The Charge of the Goddess, but her roots are ancient. She could be seen as the embodiment of creation. As the vastness of the cosmos and creator of all things and time, she is the goddess of eternity and cycles of time. As such, she could have been linked to Ananke, a primordial goddess who emerged self-formed at the dawn of creation as an incorporeal and serpentine being whose arms encompassed the breadth of the cosmos. With her husband Chronos (the personification of time), Ananke created the first universe. As all time and space exist within the Starry Goddess, she is both the ending and the beginning, Alpha and Omega. She is the great creator and she is also the great destroyer, similar to Kali or Tiamat. She gave birth to all of the universe, and she is also the all-devouring Dark Mother who would eat everything at the end of time. She is both the womb and the tomb. I was inspired by the original poem of D. Valiente for this card: "Hear the words of the Star Goddess, the dust of whose feet are the hosts of Heaven, whose body encircles the universe: I who am the beauty of the green earth and the white moon among the stars and the mysteries of the waters, I call upon your soul to arise and come unto me. For I am the soul of nature that gives life to the universe. From me, all things proceed and unto me they must return. (..)
