It is also science fiction story where a dangerous creature or alien is present in outer space. It could also refer to a hypothetical scenario where a real-life organism or entity is discovered in space and is perceived as a monster or threat. 

In general, "monster in space" suggests a story or situation where a dangerous or unknown entity is present in the vast expanse of outer space.
