The Gnothole

This piece was created for the Rik Oostenbroek self. collaboration contest.  I was honored to be one of over 400 artist inspired by Rik"s work!

My(self.) creation is a physical piece using multi-textured, dimensional textiles which were handstitched, manipulated, layered as well as cut away and blended with layers of paint. Digitally removed to show the various backgrounds that make us unique. 
 
When I thought of what My(self.) could be, I immediately thought of how multifaceted we truly are.  What makes me- me? So many layers- from a hard outer shell to colorful insights.  Strong durable material, to soft,  brittle or easily manipulated- experiences blended together to form a whole... I am all of the above.
