As thoughts run around the mind, they all inherit their own unique weights. As new thoughts are born and old thoughts grow heavy, the racetrack mind begins to clutter. The race instead becomes some kind of uneventful mingling as thoughts fall off track and bump into each other. Imagine the cluttered mind as one hundred people who cannot effectively communicate with each other, standing together in a room. It is necessary then to re-envision the mind as pure darkness. After darkness is learned, quiet must be learned. This is undoubtedly harder, however, it can be accomplished with guided meditation or simple breathwork. The intent is to narrow all thoughts down to one point, one aspect, and imagine that point as a flower in the center of darkness, unlit but somehow remarkably visible. This flower can be admired and formed in the mind for any amount of time. Inhale, exhale, and imagine the flower. When comfortable, ignite the single flower, and return to pure light. From pure light, the mind can be taught new practices and patterns in its infancy. This can be practiced no matter the amount of clutter, and with any level of control. The act of attempting is everything. 


This is a letter to myself. As I grow older, I learn new ways to conceptualize my thoughts. This is the same for my artwork, this is the same for my life, and this is the same for the world around me. I am constantly learning new ways to conceptualize, and with this comes various rewards and burdens. The idea of the phoenix flower originated as a candle maybe eight years ago. I would imagine a candle that I could blow out, and that would re-ignite. I have now found new ways to experience this, and so here is my record of it. Release and Receive. Burn and Redeem.


As a side note, I hope you appreciate my attempt at comedy through irony.
