Meme culture and the art movements of expressionism and neo- expressionism share many parallels in their approach to creative expression. Both meme culture and expressionism focus on the use of bold, emotive imagery and a disregard for traditional artistic conventions, while neo-expressionism takes this approach a step further by incorporating elements of modern technology and popular culture. These art movements all reject the idea of objective reality and instead focus on the subjective experiences of the artist and the viewer, creating a sense of relatability and immediacy in their work. This emphasis on personal expression and the blurring of boundaries between high and low art is a defining characteristic of modern art, and can be seen as a continuation of the themes and techniques pioneered by these art movements.
