The Owners Club: First Edition 1/1 NFTs

Chicago came into the 2021 season hoping that they could get solid QB play from rookie Justin Fields to complement a strong defense and carry them to the playoffs. Instead, Chicago finished 6-11 behind an anemic offense which ranked 27th in points per game.  This also translated to little success for TOC, where Chicago ranked 26th in scoring for QB, RB, and WR.

Cleveland had a disappointing 2021 season, where playoff aspirations fell flat in a tough AFC North on the way to an 8-9 record.  Cleveland was expected to have a dominant running game and that played out in their TOC scoring, where they finished with the 2nd-highest scoring card at that position.  However, they were let down with their QB play, which led to the 30th-ranked QB and 32nd-ranked WR scoring for the season.

Denvers offensive struggles continued in 2021, leading to a 7-10 overall record and another year sitting at home for the playoffs.  Denver brought Teddy Bridgewater in to hopefully provide some stability at the QB position, but the results were ultimately underwhelming as they finished 25th in scoring at the position and 28th in WR scoring.  Denver showed some promise with their backfield, as Javonte Williams and Melvin Gordon proved to be an effective one-two punch on their way to the 11th highest-scoring RB card in 2021.

Another NFL season, another year of futility for Detroit - this time, helmed by a new QB in trade acquisition Jared Goff.  Despite the switch from Matt Stafford to Goff, the results looked familiar for Detroit fans: bad offensive play (29th in QB scoring) leading to a poor 3-13-1 record.  The one reason for optimism for the future was the late-season play of rookie Amon-Ra St. Brown, who exploded over the last few weeks of the year.

New York was one of the worst teams in football last year, finishing dead last in the NFC East with a 4-13 record.  While New York was bad in every facet of the game, their quarterback play was particularly rough, coming up next-to-last in TOC scoring for QBs and 22nd-or-worse for every single position.  New York was a staple of Lowball lineups in 2021, but hope springs anew for 2022!

Not much was expected from Houston in 2021, and they entirely lived up to those lack of  expectations with a 4-13 record.  Giving the majority of starts to journeyman Tyrod Taylor and 3rd-round rookie Davis Mills did not lead to offensive success, as Houston finished 22nd or worse at every single position.  Brandin Cooks did have some success as an individual playmaker, but overall Houston cards were littering the Lowball leaderboard week after week.

Indianapolis went into 2021 with hopes of winning a wide open AFC East, and that outcome was well within their grasp needing only a win in Week 18 against NFL-worst Jacksonville to seal a playoff berth. Instead, Indy lost that game and missed the playoffs despite an amazing year from Jonathan Taylor, who finished second in the AP Offensive Player of the Year race and carried the Indianapolis RB card to the #1 scoring spot.

It is never a good thing to get back-to-back #1 draft picks, but that is exactly what Jacksonville did. Coming into 2021 with high hopes behind #1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence and rookie coach Urban Meyer,they will unfortunately end the year with yet another #1 overall pick, with their on-field performance only being overshadowed by their off-field disasters. In Urban Meyers one year stint as Jacksonville head coach,  Jacksonsivlle saw three out of their five positions finish 31st or 32nd, including the all-important QB scoring being dead last in TOC.

The Owners Club: First Edition 1/1 NFTs #26

Los Angeles was unable to make the playoffs out of the tough AFC West, finishing with a 9-8 record behind the 2nd-year emergence of Justin Herbert.  Herbert was explosive in 2021, finishing 3rd in QB scoring for the season and leading all offensive positions to top-10 finishes.  Herbert will continue to lead a talented supporting cast next year, positioning the Thunder Horsies for continued success in S2 and beyond.

Miamis on field product matched its TOC output for almost every position - thoroughly middle-of-the-pack.  Miami finished just outside the playoffs with a 9-8 record, managing through a number of injuries to key offensive players including QB Tua Tagoviola while being carried by their defense. Their TOC scoring output reflected those injuries, finishing no better than 12th for any offensive position but finishing 6th in defensive scoring.

Minnesotas recent run of lackluster seasons continued, finishing 2nd in the NFC North with an 8-9 record.  Despite strong offensive weapons, Minnesota finished 14th in points-per-game and had similar output across their offensive cards.  The highlight for the season for Minnesota was the play of second-year Justin Jefferson, leading to the 5th-ranked WR card for the season.

New Orleans just missed the playoffs in 2021, finishing with a 9-8 record while struggling through multiple starting QBs during the season.  New Orleans offensive struggles reflected in their TOC scoring as well, with their QB card finishing 12th but every other offensive position finishing 23rd or worse.

Seattle had an extremely disappointing season in 2021 - despite expecting to be one of the best teams in the NFL, Seattle finished last in the NFC West with a 7-10 record.  Injuries at QB kept star Russell Wilson out for multiple games, which also led to poor TOC scoring with no position finishing better than 12th in scoring.  Next year will be a season of change as 2021 will be looked back on as Russell Wilsons final year in Seattle.

Washingtons recent string of mediocre performances continued in 2022, riding another season of unsteady QB play to a 7-10 record.  Washington had to overcome a Week 1 injury to Ryan Fitzpatrick after just 1 passing attempt, which limited the ceiling on their offense and capped the upside of Antonio Gibson and Terry McLaurin.  Washington finished between 13th and 24th for every position for TOC scoring, making them tough to use in main contests as well as the Lowball in 2021.
